GrantWorks provides planning, project development, and grant program management services for the community and economic development, infrastructure, parks and recreation, transportation, disaster relief, coastal protection and access, and other activities that promote physical and economic well-being for more than 400 local government clients across Texas.

GrantWorks is based in Austin, Texas. However, the requirements of this position allow for remote working and only requires that you are available to participate in meetings at different Texas governmental locations which will require travel. You must reside in the state of Texas for consideration for this position.

We are expanding our grant writing capacity for governmental and semi-governmental entities. The Application Assistant works in a team setting to assist multiple Application Specialists. You will assist in the following areas: meet with clients, coordinate application processes, assist with project development, create/compile application documents, and work with tight deadlines. GrantWorks will provide support services and access to training, as appropriate, for the type of grant applications considered.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS in ASSISTING the APPLICATION SPECIALISTS:

1. Work with the client, engineers, and others to identify and qualify projects for development.

2. Implement the application process with assistance from GrantWorks’ leadership for project development, client services, project implementation, and other teams.

3. Communicate and cooperatively interact with public officials, business owners, engineers, the public, and other involved parties via telephone, email, virtual, and in-person for public input and information collection.

4. Retrieve and interpret governmental documents.

5. Be knowledgeable and competent in US Census data.

6. Coordinate, review, and verify grant budgets including work by engineers, clients, and other third parties.

7. Track application milestones and meet deadlines for newspaper publications along with grant-specific requirements

8. Attend and host public meetings and workshops for local officials and other members of the community, including presentations to county commissioners’ courts, city councils, and other entities as necessary.

9. Communicate plans, policies, and procedures with clients and stakeholders

10. Respond to business and community inquiries

11. Assist with the preparation of exhibits and maps.

12. Write concise, responsive, and compelling grant narratives.

13. Create/compile complete and accurate grant application documents.

14. Organize, coordinate, and write multiple grant applications for multiple programs/agencies simultaneously.

15. Serve as primary contact with funding agencies, developing relationships, and interacting effectively with agency officials and program staff.

16. High capacity for analytical thinking and problem solving

SKILLS

1. Strong computer skills are mandatory, including the ability to navigate and search the internet to retrieve information when required, use of Microsoft Word and Excel, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Google Drive, Google Meets, and Microsoft Teams

2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required

3. Able to work with numerous deadlines and “trigger” events

4. Able to work with multiple Application Specialists on numerous grants simultaneously

5. Creative thinking and problem-solving regarding application requirements

6. Organizational skills to include time management, goal setting, working under pressure, and being self-motivated

7. Willing to learn how to speak publicly at Public Hearings and present at City Council and/or Commissioners Court

8. Experience with 2 CFR 200 is a plus

9. Experience working with city and county governments is a plus

10. Experience with census information is a plus

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • College degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 1-2 years of work experience in a grant-related position preferred.
  • Reliable Internet Access

Familiarity with Community Development Block Grants, the Economic Development Administration, the Texas General Land Office, the Texas Department of Agriculture, the Texas Department of Transportation, and other Federal grant funding agencies is a plus.

Valid Texas Driver’s License and clean driving record required. Offer will be contingent upon current driving record issued by Tx Dept. of Public Safety.

This is a full-time position that may require overnight travel.

This position is remote.
