The Role:
Our client is seeking a dedicated Consultant General Surgeon to join their existing team of Specialists. The successful applicant will be someone keen to join an exciting and developing rural service and a willingness to reside within the local community will be highly advantageous.
The Staff Specialist General Surgeon will provide high level clinical care to surgical patients, managing elective and emergency presentations, attending Specialists’ Clinics, inpatient referrals and patients admitted through the emergency Department.
This role will work collaboratively with one other Staff Specialist and three VMO general surgeons to provide a wide range of surgical services in conjunction with nursing and allied health staff and fellow surgical specialists. This is an accredited training hospital in general surgery and the provision of high-quality teaching and training in surgery is an essential component of the specialist surgeon’s role.
The Hospital:
Surgical procedures performed annually include ENT, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Urology and Ophthalmology. The Hospital has a new state of the art Intensive Care Unit with 8 ICU/HDU beds, it is a Level 1 Teaching Hospital.

Skills & Qualifications required:
- Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in the specialty of General Surgery (or equivalent and ability to gain FRACS).
- Demonstrated clinical ability commensurate with that expected of a Specialist Surgeon in a Victorian public hospital
- Demonstrated skills in general surgery, including emergency care
- Current GESA certification for gastrointestinal endoscopy
- Evidence of ongoing professional development and commitment to continually updating knowledge and skills
- Demonstrated capacity to function within a multidisciplinary team and to communicate with peers, management and staff to achieve organisational goals
