Our Client
Our client is a major farm enterprise of 5,500ha in northern Victoria that produces summer and winter crops with a significant amount of drip and flood irrigation. Typical summer crops include tomatoes, corn, soybeans and some irrigated lucerne. Winter crops include wheat, oilseeds, chickpeas and Faba Beans. There is a Horticultural Cropping Manager who manages the summer crops. With the recent acquisition of 2,500ha of dryland, they are now searching for a Cropping Manager for their winter and summer dryland crops. The business is run on corporate principles and has modern machinery, is well resourced with 8-10 farming staff plus contractors, with an on-site agronomy team, and a new administration building for accounts, managers and workshop.

Role
This senior leadership role is to bring a major focus to the dryland and irrigated winter crops, develop and implement farming plans and budgets, ensure best practice in farm management via appropriate land use, maximise profit, and manage and lead staff. You will be able to demonstrate your existing experience in achieving outcomes under such a cropping system. You will be a leader capable of working with your team of managers to achieve desired outcomes, and a high-level communicator capable of strategic planning and financial management.

Requirements
The person for this role will have the following key attributes:
  • A breadth and depth of experience in the management of all dryland and irrigated winter crops
  • Analytical and planning skills and demonstrated ability in determining optimum land use and devising farm winter cropping plans
  • Demonstrated capabilities in running agricultural enterprises profitably
  • Most likely previous experience in running a large agricultural enterprise involving cropping and livestock
  • Technical – you will understand all farm production systems
  • Qualification – Bachelor of Agricultural Science or equivalent (preferred)
  • Project Management – experience, in executing large agricultural scale projects and realising the benefits
  • Leadership and communication - demonstrable leadership of agricultural production
Location
The farm is located in northern Victoria, near Boort/Minmindie. Boort is located on Lake Boort, a water wonderland for those who love boating, water skiing, canoeing, sailing, fishing and bird watching. Located just 250km northwest of Melbourne and 100km from Bendigo, Boort is the Jewel of the Loddon region with many attractions. There is also a major new High School located at Boort, ideal for young families.

Remuneration
An outstanding remuneration package is on offer to attract the right person for this role, including the option of either on-farm accommodation or a 4BR house overlooking Lake Boort.
