Position Summary: Director of the State of Kansas Division of Printing, Surplus and Mail

The Kansas Department of Administration is seeking a motivated, forward-thinking and dynamic executive to be the Director of the State of Kansas Division of Printing, Surplus and Mail. This role will be a champion of innovation and continuous improvement of business processes to increase efficiency and growth in several critical areas of operation. This position is a direct report to the Secretary of Administration and will manage a team of nearly 40 talented employees.

The State of Kansas Print Plant, which has been in continuous operation since the 1920’s, has undergone rapid modernization in the past four years. The print plant produces all printed materials for the State of Kansas, including legislative documents, court books, tax documents and official correspondence to Kansans. The recent acquisition of state-of-the-art printing and finishing equipment has opened the door for new management to expand the print plant’s operations and business into new and exciting areas. This position will be an opportunity for a motivated leader to expand the capabilities of emerging and modern technology and place the State of Kansas at the forefront of the industry.

In addition to the cutting-edge printing operations, this position is also responsible for management of mail processing and delivery, as well as the State of Kansas Surplus Property program. The Surplus Property program processes items that are no longer in use by state and federal agencies for resale to other units of government as well as the general public.

Successful candidates for this position will have a strategic vision for growing business opportunities and a talent for long-range planning and execution. Leadership and vision will be the most important qualities for this position, but it also requires excellent communication and analytical skills, with the ability to manage across many disciplines.

Business savvy, communication skills and marketing expertise are also important for this position. Managing customer, vendor and stakeholder relationships are important components to management of this division.
