Lead Teacher

1. Lead Teachers will follow the Girls Club philosophy in their teaching and classroom guidance. Our emphasis is on building self-esteem by offering many experiences for the child and using only positive language. This is exemplified by a non-violent, non-sexist, non-ageist, non-racist exploration of our environment.

2. Be responsible for the safety of the children. Analyze equipment safety and repair needs and report them to the site director. Make certain that the first aid kit is adequate, that teachers are trained in emergency procedures, that children can respond to emergencies such as fire, and that children are adequately supervised for all activities and programming.

3. Assure that all teachers in your team develop and execute a program that contributes to the care, growth and development of the children in your care. Rotate classroom teaching materials, be aware of room arrangement, and help guide the planning process. Generally, stay aware of the total classroom needs.

4. Report children’s progress and problems to parents. Be responsible for providing a written progress report to parents and/or guardians three times per year for preschool children and every six months for infants, toddlers and School Age children. Participate in any parent meetings along with the site director.

5. Make recommendations for service needs of children to site director. Report any suspicions of abuse of neglect to the site director immediately.

6. Know and enforce EEC regulations and procedures.

7. Maintain confidentiality.

8. In conjunction with the site director, observe and conference with all teachers, both paid and volunteer. Give feedback and guidance on a regular basis. Facilitate team meetings every month, stressing team teaching and consistency of approach. Regularly meet with site director to discuss the progress and needs of the teachers and classroom.

9. Inform teaching staff of possible training opportunities and inform site director of staff training needs.

10. Be responsible for classroom record keeping; for example USDA meal count records, absences of children for billing purposes, etc.

11. Construct supply orders when needed.

12. Oversee writing of monthly newsletters to parents.

13. Attend bi-monthly site meetings from 5:30 to 7:30 PM.

14. Act as mandated reporter in suspected cases of abuse or neglect.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 - $19.95 per hour
