Client
Our client is a grower and supplier of high-quality Australian food, supplying customers and markets with produce that meets their specific demands. In their first twelve months of operation, they invested in more than $50 million worth of Australian assets, including lush grazing properties in Western Australia and Victoria. With more than 15,000 head of livestock across those properties at any one time and more than 40 people employed, the company supplies to both the Australian domestic and international markets.

The Role

The business is seeking to employ a Livestock Manager to join their beef feedlot team, located at Kalannie, which is 2.5 hours northeast of Perth. This is a hands-on, full-time position with weekend work as required. The Livestock Manager will provide team leadership and guidance in the day-to-day operation of the feedlot.

Responsibilities

The Livestock Manager will report to the Feedlot Manager as required on these activities:
  • Assist in overseeing and managing the daily operations of the feedlot
  • Ensure that animal welfare is paramount in all operational activities and that this is supported by contemporary animal husbandry techniques such as Low-Stress Livestock Handling
  • Ensure that animal nutritional requirements are managed to the highest level
  • Ensure that the feedlot is a safe place to work for all staff and visitors; underpinned by relevant OHS guidelines within the feedlot.
  • Review existing and develop new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) where required to meet operational and OH&S requirements. In consultation with each area supervisor, assist with the implementation of SOPs across the feedlot
  • Ensure that all Quality Assurance Schemes are operating in accordance with guidelines and relevant regulations
  • Ensure that environmental regulations specific to the feedlot are abided by and operational processes updated where required
  • Establish and maintain training programs to ensure all staff in feedlot area operations are competent and appropriately skilled to be able to fulfil their roles.
Skills and qualifications
  • The preferred candidate should have at least five years of beef cattle or dairy cattle experience and good mechanical skills
  • Strong low-stress cattle handling abilities
  • Animal health & welfare knowledge
  • Leadership experience
  • Sound judgement & decision-making skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong computer literacy and experience in livestock data systems
  • Prior experience with and practical understanding of workplace health and safety requirements, systems and management
  • Driver’s license (C class minimum)
Remuneration and Location
The role offers an excellent salary package including superannuation of approximately $95-105,000/annum. There is 5 weeks of annual leave. The role is located at Kalannie, which is 2.5 hours northeast of Perth.
