The opportunity
The Manager of Direct Taxes will bring a strategic mindset to the management of tax risks associated with QBE’s business activities, whilst also playing a critical role in ensuring QBE consistently and accurately meets it’s direct tax obligations across the Australia Pacific division. You will be responsible for the income tax portfolio across the region which includes tax advisory, tax compliance and tax reporting and will seek to continuously improve the quality and efficiency of delivery to our internal and external stakeholders.
The role will provide an opportunity for you to:
- Work collaboratively with our indirect tax team, transfer pricing team and offshore support team to create accountability, establish a partnering mindset and share knowledge across our global tax team
- Research and advise on technical income tax matters, including providing guidance on the tax implications of transactions, the proactive identification of law changes and their impacts on QBE and it’s customers
- Review work prepared by our offshore support team, Finance teams and external advisors to ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements
- Play an important role In the implementation of global projects such as the OECD minimum tax rules and the transition to IFRS17 accounting requirements
- Actively implement our tax governance framework and bring a risk mindset to everything you do
- Take a lead role in process improvement and automation initiatives
- Work with external advisors and liaise with various tax authorities, including in the context of audit and dispute resolution
- Build strategic relationships across Finance and broader Business teams
- Support the broader implementation of Finance strategic priorities across entities in the Australia, Pacific and Asia region.
Your story so far
We are seeking a candidate who has a background in either a medium/large accounting environment or within the tax team of a large corporate who is ready to take the next step in their career with this exciting opportunity! You will have 3-4+ years’ experience in the corporate tax realm with appropriate related qualifications, e.g. CA/CPA/MTax. You will have had hands on exposure to the delivery of tax advisory and tax compliance, as well as a demonstrated ability to support to various stakeholders across different levels. You will work effectively within and across teams, possess an energetic and curious mindset and bring a level of commercial acumen to your work. You consistently drive to the heart of an issue and seek a deeper level of understanding.
