POSITION SUMMARY
As a key member of the Entertainment/Live Music team, reporting directly to the Director, Headliner Entertainment, Live Music & Enrichment, the Manager, Live Music Operations is responsible for developing, managing and maintaining a customized and innovative brand differentiating Live Music program for Royal Caribbean International. This position is responsible for managing the recruiting, casting, hiring and scheduling of 1200+ musicians annually and for leading the teams that support these tasks. This position is also responsible for maintaining and further developing the musician talent acquisition strategy as well as building, establishing and maintaining industry relationships with outside agencies, partners and vendors developing the future growth of the overall Live Music operation. This position is responsible for maximizing guest satisfaction and ratings as it pertains to onboard Live Music venues. The Manager Live Music Operations, will work closely with other leadership positions in the Entertainment Department, shipboard and shoreside, as well as liaise with other departments such as Crew Medical, Groups, Sales, Charters, Marketing, HR, Legal and PR. This position is essential to the success of the overall Entertainment operation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage the strategic planning and execution of the overall Live Music program for the Royal Caribbean fleet
- Build the yearly Live Music plan and schedule based on itineraries, ship class, voyage length, guest demographic and budget.
- Manage the recruitment, screening, casting, hiring and scheduling of fleetwide bands and musicians including but not limited to: Caribbean Bands, Latin Bands, Party Bands, Music Hall House Bands, Jazz Bands, Schooner Bar Entertainers, Pub Guitarists, Stowaway Piano Players and other specialty musicians.
- Manage the review of all Live Music submissions, analyzing and identifying current and future talent from expanded sources such as live auditions, videos, promotional reels and talent showcases.
- Oversee the master Live Music schedule by ship and itinerary. Adjust schedules based on guest demographics, performance and requests.
- Responsible for monitoring shipboard and guest feedback, via reporting systems, and regularly distributing trends and feedback.
- Responsible for the purchasing, repair and maintenance of fleetwide musical instruments and equipment
- Communicates with shipboard management to maintain the integrity and quality of the Live Music program
- Develop, build and maintain strong relationships with agencies and musicians establishing new alliances and industry-first partnerships to enhance this goal.
- Sets-up and attends Entertainment showcases, festivals, shows and auditions as part of the strategy of sourcing brand differentiating talent with the goal of enhancing and innovating the Live Music program.
- Responsible for managing contracts, insurance, travel, documentation and scheduling logistics.
- Develop and manage Music Management System (MMS)
- Responsible for writing SOP and SQM documentation to support the fleetwide Live Music operation.
- Develop compelling presentations using critical data and materials for executive level meetings and other initiatives as needed.
- Prepare various reports as required including, but not limited to, status reports, talent search reviews, budget analysis and industry trends.
- Travel to various vessels to provide support and evaluate all performances as needed.
- Prepare annual operating budgets for all musicians and manage expenses within established operating plan.
- Manage specialized Live Music for Sales Events, Groups, Charters, Themed Cruises and shoreside Corporate Events.
- Manage the day-to-day Live Music operation

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
This position is responsible for $20M annually.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in related field.
- A minimum of five years experience in the Entertainment Industry / Show Busines.
- Talent sourcing, casting and scheduling experience is required
- Experience in creating customized industry leading Live Music programs
- Proven success in relationships with leading live music agencies must be demonstrated.
- Experience as a performer, in front of live audiences (and therefore having a profound understanding of the complexities and idiosyncrasies of the performing arts) is preferred.
- Cruise industry experience both shipboard and shoreside is requested.
- Successful experience working on projects with shoreside and shipboard personnel pertaining to various aspects of the cruise industry.
- Excellent understanding of policies and procedures regarding work ethics, hiring and termination of personnel.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and management skills
- Strong decision making and problem-solving skills
- Excellent negotiation skills.
- Knowledgeable of Microsoft software: Excel, Power Point, Word, Lotus Notes, Outlook.
- Able to travel when required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee is occasionally required to walk to the dock, ascend and descend the vessel. This position may regularly travel domestically or internationally. Visual requirements include distant, close and color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The environment includes work inside/outside the office, travel to other offices, as well as domestic, international, and shipboard travel. A high noise level is possible if visiting shipboard or offsite locations.
