Position Purpose
The key purpose of this role is to perform high quality diagnostic imaging procedures for small
and large animals in The Animal Hospital at Murdoch University.

About the Work Area
Murdoch University is home to the only Veterinary College in Western Australia, and its
prestigious teaching hospital provides the clinical facility that enables students to have the
clinical ‘hands-on’ opportunity. It also provides a service to community through its team of
top specialists who oversee the care and treatment of all animals referred to the Hospital.

Key Responsibilities / Duties
1. In conjunction with the licensee(s), perform high quality diagnostic imaging
procedures for both small and large animals including all imaging modalities, intra-
operative procedures, image intensifier procedures, contrast procedures and
assisting with ultrasound special procedures.
2. Competently and safely perform routine MRI and CT scans including assisting with
interventional studies performed by clinicians. Be responsible for the safety of all
personnel within the hazardous environments.
3. Provide support and training to veterinary students and veterinary nurses in the
Diagnostic Imaging section as required.
4. Communicate effectively with staff and external clients.
5. Strict adherence to University and TAHMU policies, procedures, and protocols. Strict
adherence with The Veterinary Surgeons’ Act of WA, Radiological Council of Western
Australia Regulations and other veterinary industry related Acts and Regulations.
6. Establish and enforce radiation safety practices and protocols for staff and students
working in the Diagnostic Imaging department in accordance with current legislation

7. Assist with the setup, operation, and maintenance all imaging and ancillary
equipment. Perform routine troubleshooting and problem solving, organise
maintenance schedules, non-routine repairs and liaise with service companies.
8. Assist with the documentation and archiving of all records and materials entering the
Diagnostic Imaging facility including database entries, image teaching files, the
radiology resource library and the Picture Archive and Communication System (PACS)
maintenance and administration.
9. Enter account details and other relevant patient data on the hospital computer
system and maintain accurate hospital patient records in a timely manner.
10. Ensure accurate and complete estimations and billing of all cases during shift and
adhere to relevant hospital policy.
11. Assist with maintaining the film badge radiation monitoring system, radiation
records, radiation staff licence records and routine radiation checks and liaise with
Radiation Health as necessary.
12. Perform routine equipment quality control, maintenance procedures and domestic
cleaning as required.
13. Ensure adequate stocks of consumables are purchased and maintained and liaise with
suppliers. Participate in stock take as required.
14. Manage workflow efficiently and autonomously within the department and ensure all
necessary duties are completed in a timely manner.
15. Maintain an up-to-date working knowledge of specified University software packages
and Microsoft Office applications.

for Scientific Purposes’ and undertake mandatory animal ethics training.
Selection Criteria
Essential
1. Completion of a Bachelor of Science (Medical Imaging Science) or equivalent.
2. A minimum of two years’ experience in medical and/or veterinary diagnostic imaging
procedures.
3. Experience in CT and MRI.
4. Experience with computer systems and software used in diagnostic imaging practices,
in particular PACS software.
5. Experience with computer systems used in veterinary practices, in particular with
RxWorks.
6. Knowledge and understanding of procedures and regulations pertaining to radiation
safety.
7. Current Radiation Licence with the Radiological Council of Western Australia.
8. Excellent organisational, time and workload management skills, including the ability to
prioritise workload to meet strict deadlines.
9. Highly effective communication, customer service and interpersonal skills, and the
demonstrated ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with staff at all levels
of the organisation.
10. Demonstrated ability to use initiative, assume responsibility for tasks and projects and
to resolve problems.
11. Proven ability to work independently as well as fitting seamlessly into a team
environment.
12. Demonstrated computer literacy (including, familiarity with the MS Office suite of
programmes).

1. Ability to work outside of normal office hours when required.
2. Be able to provide evidence of appropriate vaccination or immunity in accordance with the
