Job Title: Contractor/Freelance Medical Reviewer

Location: Remote

Position Overview:


Health Union is seeking freelance Medical Reviewers to partner with our growing Editorial Team. The Medical Reviewer will be primarily responsible for reviewing new and existing clinical content for our 40+ digital health communities. This is a fully remote, freelance position. The Medical Reviewer will be asked to complete assignments on a project-by-project basis.


Projects often fall into one of three categories:

  • One-off single-topic articles

  • Small projects of 5 to 20 articles on a single health condition

  • Big projects of 50 to 100 articles on a single health condition


All medical review is invoiced at a contracted hourly rate (starts at $85/hr and varies based on education and experience).


What You Do:


  • Review our content to ensure medical accuracy and appropriateness for our consumer health audiences

  • Provide valuable medical scope and context by advising our editorial team on a variety of medical topics

  • Typically, medical review of a single 600-word article averages about 15-20 minutes.

  • You may review a variety of content types, including:

    • Articles

    • Slides

    • Images

    • Infographics

  • Some things to look at during your review include:

    • Is the content relevant, accurate, and up-to-date?

    • Is there a better way to say this? For example, switching one term for another

    • Review sources and citations, providing alternatives when needed

    • Suggest edits as needed

What You Bring:


  • Board certification as a healthcare physician (MD, DO), PharmD, PA-C, or nurse (RN, BSN, NP, DNP)

  • Ability to translate complex ideas and technical terminology into simple, intuitive language

  • Research literacy and familiarity with current industry standards

  • Dedication to accuracy, deadlines, and health literacy

  • Proficiency with Google Drive
