About the role
The New Graduate Midwife Transition to Practice Program has a rotational pathway through Birth Suite, Maternity Day Stay, Postnatal, High Risk Antenatal and Gynaecology, Antenatal Clinic including community outreach clinics.
Each area provides a period of supernumerary time with an additional day with a Lactation Consultant on the postnatal ward and 5 days upon rotation to Birth Suite.

The New Graduate in midwifery program is overseen by the John Hunter Hospital (JHH) Midwifery Educator. Each New Graduate Midwife will be mentored by an allocated Clinical Midwifery Educator, for the duration of the program.
Your Initial orientation includes a relationship building session with M&G clinical leadership team, perinatal safety education, domestic violence routine screening and self-care.

The New Graduate midwives to have a virtual Microsoft Teams page to enable connection virtually with the education team and one another. Group and individual clinical supervision sessions are available via teams or face to face. Individual skills and development reviews are attended every 4 months.

Set skill study day throughout the year including VE and cervidil insertion, epidural preparation and care, well newborn discharge checks, artificial rupture of membranes, speculum examination, sterile water injections and water birth. As well as the opportunity to enrol in venepuncture and cannulation, perineal repair and episiotomy mastery workshops.

About you
We are looking for enthusiastic passionate New Graduate/ Early Career Midwives, in their first-year post-graduation who are ready to learn in a fast-paced dynamic setting. Opportunities to progress into MGP models of care exist . Newcastle are renowned for their MGP models of care. Belmont Birthing services and Hunter Group practise are great examples of John Hunter Hospitals passion and advocation for midwifery led models and towards normal birth intiatives.

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW. Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations. Please provide proof of booster vaccination if available.

To be eligible for employment in these roles you must be: an Australian Citizen, or a permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport, or a citizen of another country with an appropriate visa that allows you to work in Australia.

If you currently hold a temporary visa that allows you to live and work in Australia you may only be offered employment in line with the conditions and expiry date of your visa.
