The Role
MQ Health is seeking an ENT Registrar to provide clinical and academic services to ENT discipline at Macquarie University Hospital. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to:

Collaborate with groups across MQ Health to participate in research projects
-
Be exposed to a wide range of ENT cases
-
Supervise and train students, registrars and other Doctors in Training
-
Structured learning program within otolarygnology
-
Contribute to educational and research activities with MQ Health [including the opportunity for a conjoint academic appointment].

About You
You will be an aspiring ENT surgeon who is committed to clinical care, education and research. You will be keen to work in an innovative multidisciplinary environment and be passionate about providing patient centre care. You will have experience working within busy inpatient settings while balancing supervision, teaching and mentoring of junior staff and medical students.
Key Accountabilities include (
Not limited to):
Clinical
-
Provide clinical service within the scope of practice as granted by the MUH Medical Advisory Committee and approved by the MUH Board to patients of MUH and the Clinic.
-
Provide clinical management and timely treatment of patients [both inpatient and outpatient] delegated by the clinical supervisor[s] and the care of colleagues within the discipline.
-
Provide a specialist liaison and consultation service to patients in conjunction with the clinical supervisor as required by other accredited practitioners who provide medical care at or in connection with MUH.
-
Liaise and work effectively with allied health professionals involved in patient care including the broader care team.
-
Supervise and commit to accurate documentation and completion of electronic medical records to reflect clinical decisions, tests, procedures and discharge diagnoses and instructions.

Perform ward rounds, independently or with others [such as junior medical staff and/or the admitting doctor and/or clinical supervisor[s], as required for inpatient care at MUH as far as possible within the normal working hours of the ward
-
Participate in formal handover and ensure effective communication between clinicians [with particular regard to deteriorating patients], while meeting standards of care.
-
Comply with MUH and MUCA policies and procedures and the MUH By-laws.
-
In consultation with the admitting doctor, ensure appropriate arrangements are made for patients on discharge from MUH to maximise continuity of care, patient-centred care and good health outcomes – including timely and respectful liaison with patient’s family, carers and general practitioner as appropriate.

Adapt clinical practice in accordance with contemporary evidence based best practice.

If required participate in an on-call roster (under the direction of clinical supervisor(s) or senior medical staff) and when on call, be within an accessible distance in order to respond to urgent and precipitous events.
-
Make decisions concerning the patient[s] in consultation with your immediate supervisor(s) and team.
-
Promptly advise your supervisor, admitting doctor or senior medical staff of any concerns you have regarding a patient’s condition or management.
Administrative
-
Attend Discipline, Program and MQ Health meetings as required by supervisor(s) or the Director of Medical Services.
-
Participate in Discipline/Program Morbidity and Mortality meetings and other meetings deemed compulsory by supervisor(s) or the Director of Medical Services.
-
Provide a minimum of four weeks’ notification of planned/intended leave arrangements (personal or work related) ensuring adequate coverage is arranged and signed off by the primary supervisor and the Doctors in Training Manager.
-
Notify supervisor(s) immediately of any event that may give rise to a complaint or medico legal claim and complete the appropriate incident notification forms.
Research Activities
-
Engage and assist in the ongoing research projects of the discipline
-
Develop two research projects with presentations of the biannual discipline meetings.
-
Prepare and submit two (2) manuscripts for peer-review.
-
Research a pre-determined otolaryngology topic and present at the NSW ASOHNS CPD Meetings when held at MQ Health.
Quality Activities
-
Participate in Discipline, Program, Hospital and MQ Health quality assurance and risk management projects
-
Ensure compliance with the standards contained within the ACSQHC National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards for accreditation
-
Participate in clinical quality activities – such as peer review, clinical practice audit, root cause analysis etc.
-
Participate in Discipline and/or Program Mortality and Morbidity meetings, Sentinel Event meetings, or peer review meetings and root cause analysis teams as requested by your supervisor.
-
Systematically review clinical performance of self and discipline.
-
Participate in patient complaint reviews and responses to patient complaints.
Supervision, Training and Education
-
Participate in multidisciplinary clinical supervision, training and education in patient care environments.
-
Assist, supervise and teach medical and health sciences students, if required.
-
Attend and actively participate in relevant education sessions and grand rounds.
-
If required, present at and represent MQ Health at relevant internal and external conferences, grand rounds, and similar sessions in support of advancing the academic mission of MQ Health.
-
Participate in journal clubs for relevant Discipline and/or Program.
-
Provide advice and mentorship to individual medical and science students and learners where appropriate.
Professional development, continuing education and maintenance of standards
-
Participation in relevant college training program and exam preparation.
-
In partnership with clinical supervisor(s) seek opportunities to ensure development of clinical experience.
-
In partnership with clinical supervisor(s) develop and implement a professional development, education and training plan.
-
Complete and provide evidence of Continuing Medical Education and Development.
Qualifications
-
MBBS or equivalent qualification and registration as a medical practitioner in Australia
-
Successful completion of second postgraduate training year in an Australian Healthcare setting
-
Enrolled in or be eligible for membership into a relevant specialist training College or Faculty
-
Active (or eligible to be an active) Accredited Practitioner of MUH.

Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a wide range of stakeholders including patients and other health professionals.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.

To Apply

Demonstrated experience in ENT, including highly developed clinical skills and some prior research experience
