An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic and highly experienced Nuclear Medicine Physician to join our Molecular Imaging & Therapy Department.


Details of Department


The Department is the largest facility of its kind within the State and has an international reputation for clinical service, teaching, training and research. The Department is currently located on two campuses that are situated one kilometre apart. The Austin Campus has four SPECT/CT gamma cameras, two clinical PET/CT scanners and one research PET/CT scanner, an 18MeV cyclotron and a research cyclotron, extensive laboratories, and radiopharmacy, physics and radiochemistry support. The Repatriation Campus has the Bone Density & Mineral Research Unit (BDMRU) which is also part of the department and is involved in a number of local and international clinical trials by staff within the Endocrine Centre of Excellence and Austin Health.


Clinical services are provided for Austin Health patients as well as privately referred patients from a wide range of specialists and general practitioners spread across a large region of metropolitan Melbourne and its fringe. In addition, selected diagnostic scans and therapy studies are provided for patients from a state-wide (and interstate) referral base.

    Hours to be worked as a 9 hr shift once a fortnight. Position funded to March 2025.


The Nuclear Medicine Physician will be responsible for diagnostic evaulations of physiological conditions and the provision of therapy with unsealed radioactive sources.


To be successful for this role you must:


  • Be a registered Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

  • Hold a Fellowship of Joint College Training in Nuclear Medicine (CJCT), and primary Fellowship of either the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) or the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) or equivalent

  • Have appropriate training and experience applicable to the field of Nuclear Medicine

  • Experience and interest in radionuclide therapy is strongly encouraged,

  • Experience in cardiac stress testing and advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation

  • Demonstrate a commitment to high quality patient care

  • Demonstrate a commitment to working as a team member with peer medical, junior medical, nursing and other clinical staff to provide efficient, safe and quality care across the continuum, and

  • Demonstrate a commitment to teaching, training and research.
