Wagga Wagga Base Hospital (WWBH) is one of the busiest rural hospitals in NSW with 300+ beds. We support over 40,000 emergency presentations, 1,100 births and approximately 11,000 operations each year.

WWBH provides services including critical care, medical, surgical, pediatric, obstetric, and rehabilitation care along with mental health and community health services.

We work with a team of specialists which include cardiovascular, gastroenterology, renal medicine, obstetrics, orthopedics, psychiatry and pediatrics. There is also the provision of a full range of allied health and support services such as dental, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, sexual health, violence prevention and response services.

A specialised Mental Health Recovery Unit provides a large modern and comfortable facility, and our community health services co-located on the Wagga Wagga campus.

About the Role

The position will provide a coordination function across Murrumbidgee Local Health Districts (MLHD) to improve responses to vulnerable children, young people and their families, particularly where concerns are raised by mandatory reporters via Child Wellbeing Units (CWU). The position is responsible for ensuring education and training programs for mandatory reports in relation to child protection and domestic violence are coordinated for MLHD. This includes providing advice, support and educate Mandatory Reporters to help them determine the level of risk to a child or young person and to plan what initial action may need to occur.

The Out of Home Care Coordinator functionality within this position will provide a coordination, leadership and support function across Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) to improve health responses to young people aged 12-24 years. The position will coordinate referrals and assessment outcome reports for children and young people referred to the MLHD Out of Home Care (OOHC) Health Assessments model pathway. Duties of the position will include facilitating training of staff in use of appropriate health assessment tools and the Youth Health Better Practice Checklist. The position will assist with implementation of multicultural health initiatives for this priority population group.


The position will act as a liaison and resource person to support multidisciplinary clinicians, Service Managers and other key stakeholders with their responsibilities in mandatory reporting requirements and the implementation of the MLHD OOHC Health Assessments pathway and the NSW Health Clinical Guidelines for health assessment of children and young people in OOHC.

The position holder will be required to work closely with the Director, Manager and Assessment Officers of Child Wellbeing Units and will have direct access to the Child Wellbeing Unit/ Child Story database. They will work closely with child protection and sexual assault services in the MLHD, as well as working in partnership with other services within MLHD. The position will prioritise key partnerships with other services based on the needs and priorities of the MLHD and within the scope of the Child Wellbeing and Out of Home Care Coordinator roles for which the positions have been funded.


The position holder will work as part of the MLHD Violence Abuse and Neglect (VAN) services and will participate in the after-hours on call service roster.
