The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is currently looking to fill multiple Project Support Officer positions at the APS 5 and APS 4 levels to work in our Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO).


Ongoing (permanent) positions are available on a full-time or part-time basis at either the APS 5 or APS 4 classification level. The roles can be undertaken at either of our offices located in Belconnen (ACT), Docklands (Melbourne), Adelaide CBD or Brisbane CBD, although flexible working arrangements (including a hybrid model of working from home and the office) applies.


About the roles

The EPMO is seeking professionals who are passionate about project management. The EPMO supports the delivery of ABS projects, builds project management capability in the ABS and enables significant investment decisions.

Project Support Officer responsibilities vary depending on your skills, the role and the requirements of the team. APS 5 Project Support Officers will be responsible for more complex work.


Key duties may include:


  • contributing to the preparation of reports on project activities and milestones
  • liaising with internal and external stakeholders on project issues
  • compiling and presenting data into formats suitable for interpretation
  • assisting in project management activities
  • coordinating training programs
  • business continuity administration.

What we are looking for (selection criteria)


To be suitable you should have most or all of the following skills, qualities and experience:


  • be able to build and maintain productive working relationships with your team and stakeholders
  • ability to organise and manage competing priorities
  • well-developed written and oral communication, the ability to communicate complex information
  • an eye for detail
  • experience applying project management methods
  • use of office management software such as Excel and Word
  • use of project management software such as Microsoft Project and Jira.


In addition, skills or experience in business continuity management will be highly regarded. The EPMO also looks after Businesses Continuity for the ABS and is looking for someone to support the administration of this function.
