Position Title: Connecticut Attorney / Change Agent – Full-time position to change the world for the millions of American families who have a child who is not receiving special education services they are entitled to due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Chief of Staff of The Brain Injury Rights Group, the duties of the CT Attorney will include legal advocacy efforts in their local jurisdiction of practice in connection with our efforts related to special education and education reform. Reports to: Chief of Staff of Brain Injury Rights Group

Location: Some remote and also at NYC headquarters

Key Relationships: The Attorney works closely with the legal staff and parents.

Responsibilities

· Will be primarily responsible for managing a caseload involving special education due process hearings before an administrative law judge (most cases are being conducted telephonically during Covid-19 pandemic)

· Will receive considerable assistance, guidance and support both from a legal and administrative perspective

· Will be responsible for traveling throughout CT making presentations to small and large groups to educate the public about the rights of parents

Required Qualifications

  • Admission to Connecticut State Bar AND three (3) years of progressively responsible United States legal experience
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including public speaking
  • Ability to understand provisions of applicable laws and regulations
  • Litigation experience
  • Settlement experience
  • Efficient legal research skills
  • Ability to conduct research and analyses of pertinent legal authority
  • Ability to analyze complex problems and develop creative solutions
  • Ability to work independently with appropriate supervision
  • MUST HAVE A SENSE OF HUMOR!

NOTE: Selected candidates must remain members of the Connecticut State Bar in good standing for the duration of their employment.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Admitted to practice in federal court.
  • Experience in client representation, particularly in public interest and civil rights law.

Compensation: Competitive, based on experience

Pay: Up to $85,000.00 per year
