Job Description Summary:
The University of Kansas Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (KU ADRC) is a National Institute of Aging P30-designated national leader in AD research with the vision to impact the lives of every patient and family dealing with Alzheimer's in the region and across the state of Kansas through our research, education, and clinical care. We are a comprehensive center at the forefront of clinical trials, lifestyle intervention trials, drug and translational research, and basic science research. Our research enables us to also provide leading edge clinical care and support for dementia caregivers. In addition, we provide a wide variety of both public education and training opportunities for the workforce of tomorrow.
The primary function of this position is to assist the NIH-funded KU ADRC with outreach, recruitment, and engagement of the broad and diverse communities in Kansas City. The Research Assistant must have a sound understanding of interacting with people in the community about participation in programs and research. Activities may include aiding with recruitment, screening, consenting, engaging and scheduling appointments with participants, collecting data on computer and paper forms, discussing pros and cons of participation, organizing and hosting events, communicating with community leaders in a professional manner, among other responsibilities.
This is a hybrid position, therefore the role will require you to complete job duties both onsite at KUMC and virtually from a secure at home work location as determined by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree (experience can substitute on a year-to-year basis)
Experience: Experience engaging and serving minoritized communities
Computer skills: MS Office Suite
Attention to detail, time-management skills, strong work ethic, self-motivated, willing to learn, good interpersonal skills
Comfort with technology
Strong commitment to support ADRC's goal of creating a positive and inclusive environment for all people of all identities and backgrounds
Excellent verbal and written communication skills that extend to people of different identities and backgrounds
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrates strong cultural competence and ability to work with people of different identities, such as ethnic, socioeconomic, racial, gender, sexual orientation, disability, and cultural differences.
Education: Masters's degree
Prior research experience
Prior experience administering assessments
Prior experience using database systems (Access, REDCap, etc.)
Excellent communication, writing, and organizational skills
Ability to interact with multidisciplinary teams including patients, families, health providers, and administrative staff.
Familiarity with challenges faced by underrepresented individuals in research and healthcare
Experience in activities designed to remove barriers and increase research participation
Experience in service of underrepresented groups
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
Outreach and Engagement:
Organizes and hosts outreach and engagement events, focus groups, data collection sessions, etc. Gives online and in-person presentations to the community to increase engagement. Is engaging, respectful, and able to relate to participants across all activities. Improves the participants' experience through assisting program leaders with problem-solving, and general community communications such as developing emails, social media posts, and print or online materials for public dissemination. Serves as a liaison and supports building bridges with community leaders, organizations, and the lay public through respectful and dependable communication with the KU ADC.
Recruitment:
Calls, emails, or visits with participants to engage them in discussion of research and program activities. Reviews program and study opportunities with community members. Reviews records and enters data into databases to help participants connect with appropriate activities, or to support research. Educates potential participants about the KU ADC. Assists the team with generating and distributing communications to diverse communities.
Study Execution:
Supports delivery of surveys, questionnaires, and tests to characterize outreach, engagement, and further science of recruitment. Perform study visits with participants to include basic data collection such as demographic information, health history, physical performance testing, and similar. Supports focus groups and similar qualitative projects. Supports quantitative projects through data collection, data entry, communication, and scheduling. Maintains databases of activities for measuring the effect of engagement and outreach. Assist PIs and coordinators in all aspects of study execution as appropriate for training and experience.
The Clinical Research Assistant may be asked to work occasional evenings and weekends to support outreach events and research-related activities such as focus groups and data collection sessions in the community setting.
