As the Senior Communication Officer you will lead and manage the corporate communications and marketing activities by developing, implementing, monitoring and continuously improving the systems, practices and processes used to communicate with internal and external stakeholders.

You will have responsibility for leading the following activities and undertaking the following key tasks:

  • Prepare and manage corporate communications and marketing activities, including detailed communication strategies to support major strategic initiatives.
  • Write, edit and coordinate a wide variety of corporate documents and publications, including media releases, speeches, briefs, fact sheets and news articles.
  • Develop and maintain divisions website, intranet and social media, sourcing information and monitoring for relevance, consistency and currency, and facilitate timely updates to ensure web content is in line with strategic communication objectives, required state government standards and end-user needs.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate marketing activities and stakeholder events with a clear understanding of the Departments vision and message for stakeholders, from inception through to completion.
  • Provide high level communications and marketing advice to the management team to support informed strategic decision making.
  • Monitor the media to identify key communication, marketing and media related issues and risks, and contribute to the development of corporate documents, ensuring high quality marketing and communication collateral including publications, brochures, newsletters and the annual report.
  • Actively source opportunities to promote the Department through a variety of media and stakeholder networks.
  • Promote, build and maintain effective working relationships with the relevant Minister’s Office, other government agencies and key stakeholders.
  • Liaise and consult with relevant areas of the department and other stakeholders regarding marketing and communication; and information communication technology activities to ensure consistent application of the Queensland Government visual identity.
  • Contribute to the strategic, business and operational planning cycles in order to achieve the delivery of the communications and marketing objectives.

Your suitability for this role will be assessed against how you:

  • Expertise in marketing and communications to achieve outcomes in a changing environment and experience in managing work projects to achieve positive results.
  • Demonstrated provision of accurate advice on a range of marketing and communication issues which result in effective use of available resources to achieve outcomes and understanding of organisational processes and policies.
  • Proficiency in communicating in a clear and concise manner when consulting with internal and external personnel at all levels, structuring written and oral communication to ensure clarity, and the ability to negotiate confidently with other people, listening to and considering their ideas as well as identifying their expectations.
  • Ability to understand and support the organisation’s vision, mission and business objectives by contributing to and developing communication and marketing plans, strategies and goals.
  • Experience in building and sustaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, working collaboratively and operating as an effective team member.

While there are no mandatory qualifications for this role, practical experience in a similar role and a qualification in a related field would be advantageous.
