We are looking for an electrical engineering professional with a passion for managing an electrical asset base across Council's Water, Wastewater, Parks and Active Communities assets. This newly created position will lead and be responsible for the management of electrical projects and programs, electrical safety, standards and documentation within the whole of Council.

Along with the daily electrical responsibilities of Council, there will be a synergy with continuous improvement to systems and processes, including being proactive in investigating and providing advice on leading technologies that will deliver Council energy reduction and sustainability, with a commitment to move toward 100% renewable energy use and net zero emissions by 2030.

About the role:

This newly created position will provide the technical electrical engineering leadership and authority for Tweed Shire Council, ensuring that Council complies with all statutory requirements under current legislation, and safe systems of work are met at all times.

This position will essentially have the accountability to maintain a high standard of electrical compliance, including documentation and best practice. The position is also responsible for the effective management of Council's electrical asset base, maintenance, projects and programs of work, liaising with relevant electrical supervisors and asset officers to ensure electrical safety, compliance and standards are met. The position requires a thorough knowledge of relevant Australian Standards and Codes of Practice as applied to the Electrical and Control Industry.

The position will also be involved in the planning of longer term upgrade and replacement strategies to ensure the major electrical assets can deliver the required levels of service. The position will regularly modify and adapt systems and work practices in response to regulatory changes, new technology - Solar and other renewable energy systems installed now and into the future, together with the expansion of the asset base.

The position will be part of our Water & Wastewater Mechanical and Electrical Team but also have strong working relationships with Electrical Assets Officers in our Parks and Active Communities Unit, including the electrical teams.

We are seeking:

  • Someone with a passion for electrical asset management to lead us to maintain a high standard of electrical compliance and best practice across our electrical asset portfolio
  • Diploma qualifications in Electrical Engineering (or higher qualifications)
  • Strong technical background with substantial experience in design review, control systems engineering and energy analysis and service provision
  • A person willing to proactively seek improvements and implement standardisation within the management of electrical assets and renewable energy and systems.

Essential:

  • Diploma qualifications in Electrical Engineering.
  • Current Vehicle Licence – Car.
  • Strong technical background in Electrical Engineering with substantial experience in design review, control systems engineering, energy analysis.
  • Demonstrated and broad experience with competency in the design, implementation and evaluation of systems to ensure compliance with project policies and technical procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret engineering drawings and contract documentation pertaining to electrical works.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage Work as Executed Drawings and create or update minor electrical drawings to Australian Standards using CAD.
  • Demonstrated experience with providing electrical advice and input for electrical and asset management programs.
  • Demonstrated experience with use of software - Excel, Word, Outlook and Asset and business systems including CAD.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing all required compliance testing.

Desirable:

  • Electrical Qualified Supervisors Licence or Contractors Licence.
  • Electrical and control experience in the Water & Wastewater Industry or Heavy Industry.
  • Experience with air conditioning chiller plants and their control systems.
  • Experience with renewable energy products and systems.
  • Experience with furnace control systems (cremator).
  • General Construction Induction card (White Card).
