The Senior Financial Accountant will:
- Assist with the preparation of financial & operating statements for the Group including its subsidiaries & divisions (LPM, Graphics and Reflectives)
- Provide timely and accurate financial information to Avery Dennison Corporate (USA) and Avery Dennison Regional Head Office (Singapore)
- Assist the Group to meet its Australian and New Zealand statutory and legal financial requirements
- Ensure that all taxation transactions and returns comply with current legislation in Australia and/or New Zealand
- Liaise with, and monitor the activities of, the Shared Service Organisation
- Coordinate Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) compliance activities across all functional areas
- Liaise with external / internal auditors regarding accounting procedures & records
- Perform Treasury related activities, including loan management and cash forecasting
- Assist the Accounts Receivable function with reporting and analysis and provide back-up support
- Ensure balance sheet reconciliations are completed in an accurate and timely fashion
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:
Key Accountabilities:
- Providing accurate financial information to the Group’s holding companies (Avery Dennison US) and APG (Asia Pacific Group);
- Meeting the Corporate reporting deadlines for Avery Dennison Materials. Corporate reporting includes monthly management reporting, quarterly corporate analysis and annual reporting requirements;
- Preparation of the annual Statutory Accounts in conjunction with external advisors
- Preparation of the annual Income Tax Return in conjunction with external advisors
- Provide support to the A/R function: reporting, analysis and back-up coverage for leave.
- Assisting functional and operational managers with their ad-hoc financial queries and project reporting requirements;
- Liaise with, and monitor the activities of, the Shared Service Organisation in India. Provide support as required.
- Provide guidance to other Finance personnel on accounting matters;
- Continuous review and improvement of processes and systems;
- Maintaining the general ledger, specifically the appropriate coding of transactions and journal preparation
- Ensuring that monthly balance sheet reconciliations are completed, in an accurate & timely fashion. Continually improve reliability & quality of the reconciliation process
- Perform Treasury related activities – loan management; forecasting and management of the cash flow position
- Ensure adherence with AD Financial Policies.
- Coordinate SOX activities including maintenance of flowcharts, Internal Control Grids and testing.
- Prepare quarterly/hard close/year-end corporate schedules.
- Audit preparation & liaison, with no audit issues.
- Preparation of FBT and GST returns for Australia and/or New Zealand
- Complete tax effect accounting entries in line with USGAAP requirements
- Pay quarterly income tax instalments
- Reconcile Withholding tax transactions and make payments as required
- Complete government surveys (ABS and Statistics of NZ)
- Ensuring that payroll-related expenditure, as prepared by the Payroll department, is reported in an accurate and timely manner in the general ledger;
- Ad hoc project work
Other Responsibilities:
- Liaise with Corporate on matters as required.
- Ad-hoc general accounting duties
Maintain effective working relationships with:
- Senior Finance Personnel - Finance Director, Financial Controller and FP&A Manager
- Other Finance personnel including Financial Accountant, Accounts Receivable and Business Analysts
- Shared Service Organisation in India
- Corporate (US) and regional (Hong Kong) head offices
- Accounting personnel in subsidiary companies
- Functional operational managers
- Internal & External auditors
- ATO and Inland Revenue
WHAT WE WILL BE LOOKING FOR IN YOU:
Essential technical skills:
- Strong understanding of financial accounting and internal control concepts
- Strong understanding of taxation – Income Tax (including tax effect accounting), GST and FBT
- Understanding of Treasury and foreign currency activities
- Excel (intermediate to advanced) ; Word & Powerpoint (basic)
8+ years accounting experience, preferably in financial accounting/reporting in a large corporate environmentExperience in mainframe accounting systems
Auditing / SOX experience will be well regarded
Tertiary qualifications – Accounting/Commerce Degree, CA or CPA qualified
