About the Role
As the Manufacturing Engineer, you will own assigned commodities- ensuring that the design is fit for purpose and based to meet DFM/DFA requirements. This role also includes optimizing the commodities holistically in terms of interfaces with, e.g. system integrators, suppliers, Manufacturing, Quality, ETS, Supply Chain, Validation. This role will see you responsible for:
  • Managing and supporting the NPI Process
  • Liaising with Engineering and R&D and offering advice and consultation around DFM and DFA requirements
  • Bridging the gap between production & engineering to ensure all projects meet the required specifications & timelines.
  • Ensuring successful production of a product – ease of service, testability & manufacture
  • Delivery of adequate & outcome-based support in the generation of parts replacement kits, design of spare parts kits – content and BOM.
  • Development of operating procedures/process sheets, process flow charts & floor plan layouts.
  • Leading & conducting PFMEA activities
  • Collaborating with the Production Manager to develop the MBOM
  • Working closely with Quality to develop Control Plans for prototypes and production, analyzing measurement systems & conducting process capability studies.
  • Training of operators on the production line.
  • Leading Continuous Improvement (Kaizen) projects; manage a portfolio of ‘Lean’ projects directed at reducing waste & improving Quality to increase ‘value.’
  • Developing new manufacturing equipment and processes, write equipment specifications, author & optimize Manufacturing processes to improve Quality and material flow while reducing takt times & set-up times
  • Champion OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) initiatives to reduce scrap & downtime whilst improving preventative maintenance.
  • Assisting with the implementation & subsequent roll-out of ‘systems/tool-sets such as APQP, 5S, SPC, Kaizen, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, Process Capability, Pareto analysis, Fishbone, DOE etc
  • Serving as an internal process development consultant, primarily for Engineering & Manufacturing, ensuring Safety, Quality, & Cost Reduction efforts are being addressed, implemented & sustained.
  • Liaising with the Quality Team, reviewing & monitoring Manufactured & In-Service Quality metrics, assisting in developing and implementing corrective actions.
  • Supporting Engineering and Manufacturing as far as NCR’s (Non-Conformities), RCA’s (Root Cause Analysis), Line Optimization, etc. Creating & develop an overarching Kaizen culture within the business & lead Kaizen events focused on generating tangible efficiency improvements and cost reduction
  • Assisting in the development and maintenance of a QMS, including the authoring of WI’s (Work Instructions) associated with Engineering, Manufacturing, Procurement etc

About You
To be successful in this role, you will have extensive experience working in complex Engineering Programs across the functional boundaries of technical commodity groups in an environment with often competing priorities.

You will have a background in either Manufacturing, industrial, or electrical/electronic engineering, and are well versed in a fast-paced environment.
  • Degree in Engineering, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering or Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing, JIT, Line Sequencing, Capacity Planning, KANBAN, 5S, TQM etc.
  • Manufacturing based Value Stream Mapping & Capacity Planning
  • Manufacturing Bill of Materials (MBOM) experience
  • Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA) expertise
  • 6-Sigma (Green or Black Belt)
  • ISO 9001/2015, TS 16949 Lead Auditor Certified (a plus, not mandatory)
  • Solidworks experience
  • Experience in the development of process documentation that will include standard operating procedures/work instructions/test instructions
  • Strong autonomous background and ability to self-manage time and tasks with proven accuracy and attention to detail
  • You have a hands-on and practical approach
  • You show enthusiasm and are highly motivated in all that you do
  • This role will require the ability to travel sometimes.
  • Must be eligible to work in Australia
