About the role
The nursing team provides primary care to a prison population of 1520 prisoners in custody. In this role you will be responsible for the coordination and provision of Chronic, Complex and Aged Care Services to assist and manage patients within Acacia Prison.
The SRN will work closely with the multidisciplinary team and prison staff as an advisor, mentor and technical expert in producing changes to practice in the planning, organising and implementing the provision of nursing services . Your up to date s kills in clinical assessment, care planning, review and discharge planning of individual patients is highly essential as is your comprehensive clinical documentation skills.
You have experience working with minimal supervision in a multi-disciplinary team, demonstrating initiative and flexibility in an environment subject to pressure and change.
As the SRN you must posses the:
Commitment to your ongoing personal and professional development
Understanding of the professional, ethical and legal requirements of the registered nurse
Ability to manage change and be proactive in uncertain and unpredictable patient’s health situations and working efficiently within the constraints of correctional environments and increasing patient acuity
Willingness to adhere to the NMBA code of ethics and act in accordance with the principles of official conduct as outlined within the Public Sector Code of Ethics (Personal integrity, Relationships with others, and Accountability)
Significant knowledge, experience and leadership in nursing.
Knowledge of legislation related to Equal Opportunity, Disability Services and Occupational Health & Safety legislation
Skills and experience in the area of primary nursing including clinical knowledge and clinical problem-solving skills
We offer relocation and education allowance along with payment of registration fees.

Current registration as a Senior Registered Nurse
Experience coordinating risk assessments, information and support for patients referred to the service
Knowledge of the principles of prevention and harm minimisation in the forensic setting
Clinical knowledge and skills to refer to other healthcare professionals
Experience providing support and orientation for new staff members
Opportunity to manage projects, participate in quality improvement and policy development
The ability to carry out regular document reviews on individual patients and clinical documentation
The capability to review and disseminate all local, regional, and national policies pertaining to clinical services
Strong people management skills to be able to provide ongoing support, direction, orientation and education
Demonstrated experience in a primary health, rural health or emergency nursing
Previous roles in Justice and Correctional Settings are highly desirable
Cultural awareness including understanding the impact and management of different ethnic backgrounds, customs and contemporary issues
Ability to interact with various multidisciplinary team members and stakeholders and adapt communication style appropriately
Ability to effectively communicate in both written and oral forms
