The Position

Hawkesbury District Health Service provides inpatient and emergency services to residents of the Hawkesbury and surrounding districts under a public-private partnership with the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District.


We are currently seeking a Senior Resident Medical Officer (Anaesthetic) to join the team on fixed term full-time basis for one year. It would suit a PGY3+ doctor interested in an anaesthetic career who will gain experience in providing anaesthetic, acute pain and clinic services.


St John of God Hawkesbury Hospital

  • Hawkesbury has 131 beds and 4 Operating Theatres
  • The Emergency Department sees 30,000 patients per year including a significant number of children
  • Patients are admitted under Visiting Medical Officers in General Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics and Obstetrics & Gynaecology
  • The wards are staffed by Accredited and Non Accredited Medical, Surgical and Orthopaedic Registrars, CMOs and RMOs
  • ED Specialist Visiting Medical Officers, CMOs and RMOs staff the Emergency Department

The successful candidate will have:

  • General registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA).
  • A minimum of two (2) years postgraduate experience in relevant clinical settings. Demonstrated clinical and procedural competency in:
    • Assessment and management of surgical and medical patients
    • Venepuncture, venous and arterial cannulations
    • Urinary Catheterisation
    • Independent interpretation of diagnostic pathology, radiology and cardiology tests
    • Basic Life Support
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated the ability to work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality management and continuing medical education and training.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Infection Control.
  • Have an understanding of and ability to apply occupational health and safety principles to ensure own safety and that of others in the workplace.
