Become a key team member in this successful Poll Dorset stud, livestock and broadacre cropping operation.
The role
Our clients operate a 1200 hectare family-run mixed farming business, focused primarily on their successful Poll Dorset stud which was established in 1959 and is currently in the top ten oldest studs in the state. With a strong focus on using the best genetics available they purchase rams, ewes and semen from all of the leading studs in Australia. They also manage a 2nd cross lamb production carrying 2000ewes, cattle trading and a winter cropping operation producing canola and wheat.
Working alongside the Owner and contractors we are currently looking for a competent station hand/machinery operator with experience in (or a strong desire to learn) broad acre cropping, including spraying, spreading, header, truck and chaser bin driving. Previous experience in a livestock handling and husbandry role with the willingness to assist in livestock operations would be a bonus.
The position offers diversity as you will be involved in all aspects of the business including property improvement, general farm maintenance, fencing, welding, and basic machinery maintenance. For the right candidate, there are excellent career progression opportunities to develop into the management of the day-to-day operations of certain areas of the business.

You will be offered a generous salary package, comfortable older style 3bedroom on-farm accommodation, a work vehicle, power and a phone. The property is 25mins from the welcoming community of Young and within close vicinity of Cootamundra, Bathurst and Wagga Wagga with school bus access from the gate. There is also potential work for partners.

The ideal candidate
The successful applicant must have great communication skills, show initiative, be punctual and organised, but most importantly have a strong work ethic with the ambition to progress within the business.
Ideally you will have the following skills and personal qualities:
- Previous experience in a broadacre cropping role with experience in operating, and maintaining modern GPS-enabled machinery including headers, spreaders and spray rigs (ideal)
- Be mechanically minded with the ability to perform general daily maintenance and repairs
- Previous sheep and cattle husbandry and handling skills (ideal but not essential)
- Good understanding of general farm maintenance, fencing, and welding capabilities
- Hold a current Chemcert certificate (or be willing to obtain)
- Be trustworthy, an excellent communicator and be able to work both autonomously and as part of a team
- Fit and healthy with a positive, self-motivated mindset
- Truck License (an advantage but not necessary)
