  • APS 6 classification level: $86,081 to $97,214 plus 15.4% super
  • Location: Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Hobart, Melbourne or Sydney
  • Permanent and temporary positions; full-time or part-time.


The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is looking to fill multiple Senior Workforce Planner roles in our Workforce Management team. We are looking to fill these roles both on a permanent and temporary basis at the APS 6 classification level.

The roles can be undertaken at either of our offices located in Belconnen (ACT), Docklands (Melbourne), Adelaide CBD, Sydney CBD, Hobart CBD or Brisbane CBD, although flexible working arrangements (including a hybrid model of working from home and the office) apply.



About the Area

These roles are in our Workforce Management Section, responsible for business partnerships, short to medium workforce planning across all ABS office locations and Human Resources Metrics, Reporting and Analytics. These roles will partner with business areas and individuals to implement efficient and effective management practices to support strategic and operational workforce planning.


About the Roles

Workforce Planners analyse current workforce external and internal environments to forecast future workforce needs, ensuring the ABS can achieve its strategic priorities. They achieve this by identifying, analysing and monitoring current and future business priorities and workforce needs, develop strategies, policies and guidelines to implement changes required to meet evolving workforce priorities. Workforce Planners need to be solutions focused to develop short-medium term operational workforce plans.

Senior Workforce Planner key responsibilities include:

  • partnering with business areas to develop and implement operational workforce plans
  • leading or supporting project work to implement workforce strategies
  • engaging with business areas by providing expert advice and analysis of their workforce, including responding to and managing changes to work programs
  • providing business intelligence to confirm HR data and use HR metrics to inform and measure workforce actions
  • developing practical strategies to support business areas with staffing requirements
  • supporting transition of staff at the end of work program
  • possibly managing a small team.


What we are looking for (selection criteria)

To be suitable you should have most or all of the following skills, qualities and experience:

  • human resources experience – ideally workforce planning or HR generalist
  • engaging, influencing and managing relationships with stakeholders/clients, colleagues and senior leadership
  • experience in solving complex people related problems
  • ability to acquire and use knowledge of current and emerging workforce issues/trends to inform workforce actions/strategy
  • communication skills – experience in writing reports, presentations and/or HR plans, as well as delivering presentations, running meetings and facilitated sessions
  • strategic, conceptual and analytical thinking skills.


Desirable:

  • Human Resources qualifications
  • people management experience
  • project management skills.
