We are seeking a passionate and dynamic speech pathologist to join us at the forefront of child and adolescent mental health service development in Tasmania. The Tasmanian Government are committed to action through the Tasmanian Mental Health Service Reforms with a whole raft of new initiatives in motion to change the shape and improve mental health service delivery. This position will be based within the CAMHS South Community Team based at Clare House in New Town, however also provides specialist assessment in-reach and liaison with the CAMHS Hospital-based team.

As part of a multidisciplinary team delivering high quality mental health services in accordance with Mental Health Services principles, national Mental Health Standards, Agency policy, legal requirements and relevant professional competencies, the Speech Pathologist will:

  • Work as an effective member of the multidisciplinary Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) in providing specialist assessment, treatment, and delivery of Speech Pathology services for infants, children and adolescents with psychiatric, behavioural, emotional or developmental difficulties.
  • Undertake delivery of quality care to clients of CAMHS based on best practice principles and within a collaborative and multidisciplinary framework.
  • Promote community awareness in relation to mental health and act as a consultant to other agencies with regard to the support and management of clients with mental health needs.

The Role:

  • Provide expert, comprehensive input to management plans by evaluating the client’s communication profile and articulating the impact of this on the client’s functioning in their family and community, on diagnoses, on the treatment experience and on their mental health management.
  • Provide intervention, including individual work, group work and case management, to an allocated caseload of infant, children, and adolescents in the CAMHS setting.
  • Provide primary, secondary, and tertiary Speech Pathology consultation demonstrating a high level of clinical knowledge in the areas of paediatric speech and language, social communication, pragmatic language and language-based problem solving and the interplay with psychiatric, emotional and behavioural disorders.
  • Function as an active member of a multidisciplinary team including the provision of support and consultation to other team members as required.

Details of Appointment:

Permanent, part time, day work position working 38 hours per fortnight commencing as soon as possible.

Base Salary: $96,689 to $114,391 per annum + 10.5% superannuation

  • Please note that access to salaries beyond $105,245 is subject to qualifications and/or application to the personal upgrade scheme
  • Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2019

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Professional Development Allowance of up to $724 per annum for the ability to accrue fund up to five years
  • Post graduate qualification salary advancement where applicable

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  • Degree or diploma in Applied Science, Speech Pathology or equivalent and eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia (SPA)
  • Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  • Tertiary qualification in Speech Pathology
  • Post graduate qualification pertinent to mental health/paediatric speech pathology
  • Significant clinical paediatric experience with children and adolescents presenting with social, emotional, learning and behavioural problems
  • Current Driver’s Licence
