About the Role
The Romero Centre is a grassroots, community based service that welcomes and walks with people seeking asylum. Embracing a community development model, we provide individual, group and family support for the most marginalised children, men, women seeking asylum. As the lead ‘voice for the voiceless’ for people seeking asylum in Queensland, we actively advocate for human rights and social justice and believe that ‘Love has no borders’. The Romero Centre currently has a rare opportunity for a Support Worker to join the team. This role is a fixed term part-time position based at our Dutton Park office, which will run until 30 June 2023. This part-time role will be 4 days a week, 5 hours a day.
This role is responsible for providing and facilitating housing, emergency relief, employment, income, health, mental health, and social inclusion support to, and advocating for, people seeking asylum.
To be eligible for this position you will require (Key Selection Criteria):
- Relevant 3-year degree in Social Work, Social Science, Psychology, or equivalent, with at least 1 year’s previous relevant experience
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of issues in relation to people seeking asylum.
- Demonstrated experience and ability to work with cross-cultural frameworks of practice, strength-based practice, mental health and applying social justice principles in cross-cultural settings.
- Evidence of current vaccination against COVID-19 or willingness to obtain prior to commencement unless applicable exemption provided.
- You must hold a current Queensland Provisional Green or above Driver’s Licence.
- You will hold a Working with Children Check (Blue Card) and be able to obtain a positive Police Check and any other legislatively required personal history screening as required.

This position offers a competitive hourly rate of $39.26 to $42.25 plus superannuation in line with level 4 of our Enterprise Agreement (dependent on qualifications and experience). You will also have the opportunity to increase your take-home pay by salary sacrificing and other benefits.
