GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:

The Title IX Coordinator, Under the direction of the Director of Student Services, is responsible for the administration, supervision, and monitoring of Albemarle County Public School’s (ACPS)compliance with federal Title IX requirements and related state and school division policies and regulations. This position serves as the Title IX resource for ACPS.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintains knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations and School Division policy and regulations related to Title IX.
  • Consults with the School Division’s legal counsel concerning Title IX regulations and compliance.
  • Works to ensure a prompt, thorough, and impartial process for all parties.
  • Maintains confidentiality during all proceedings as required and possible.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of training for employees responsible for responding to and investigating Title IX complaints.
  • Conducts an initial review of allegations to determine if the formal complaint is subject to mandatory dismissal; issue written notice to the parties if dismissal is appropriate.
  • Provides technical assistance to school principals and program managers on Title IX matters.
  • Coordinates and monitors investigations of complaints of sexual discrimination, harassment, and misconduct.
  • Communicates with complainants and respondents regarding the complaint process, supportive measures, and resolution options.
  • Monitors all Title IX cases to ensure all investigations are completed promptly and are in accordance with Title IX guidelines.
  • Creates and oversees a system of support for investigations and investigators.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of training for decision-makers.
  • Provides the decision-maker with the investigative report and all documents at the time of appointment.
  • Consults with school-based and central office administrators concerning Title IX guidelines, complaints, and investigations.
  • Maintains data regarding Title IX complaints filed, investigated, and resolved.
  • Identifies systemic problems related to complaints and implements solutions to address.
  • Performs related work as required.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Comprehensive knowledge of Title IX laws and regulations, and the guidelines governing Title IX complaint investigations. Must have strong organizational, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills, be skilled in training staff and facilitating meetings, and proficient in the use of technology. Proficient in conducting investigations and documentation. Must have the ability to apply Title IX laws and regulations and prioritize and manage multiple projects and tasks; organize and manage time effectively; communicate effectively both orally and in writing and possess the ability to manage highly confidential and sensitive information. Must have the ability to skillfully manage individual, group, and organizational interactions, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, parents, students, teachers, support staff, and associates.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


Bachelor’s degree from accredited undergraduate program with major work in education, human resources or related, as well as minimum of three years of related experience. Master’s Degree and experience working in K12 preferred. Any appropriate combination of education and experience may be considered.


PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS:

School administrative work typically performed in a school setting to include classrooms, cafeteria and recreational areas. Regular coordination with principals, teachers, and other school staff is necessary. Occasional attendance to school related activities throughout the state and after normal working hours is necessary. Daily contact is made with students, teachers and school administrators. Regular contact is made with parents and the community. These contacts often require considerable skill, ability to build trust, tact, diplomacy and may require confidential and sensitive material.
