About your new branch
Transport and Traffic is responsible for the planning, operational management and delivery of enhancements to the City of Gold Coast’s transport network. With around 180 staff across four units, the branch oversees an annual budget in excess of $206 million (2022/23) to deliver capital works, supporting operational projects and planning initiatives.
Transport and Traffic works under the strategic intent of the City of Gold Coast’s Corporate Plan and implements the Gold Coast City Transport Strategy 2031. This framework seeks to ensure the city has a safe and efficient transport system that is responsive to the needs of the community and supports the achievement of economic, environmental and social objectives.
The branch works closely with many delivery partners, including the City’s development and land use planning teams and the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads to plan and manage the transport system as 'one network'.

About your new role
This new role offers an exciting opportunity to support the Gold Coast’s growing transport needs and deliver new and emerging technologies. As part of the Traffic Systems Asset Management team, you will be managing the traffic signal network (anticipated to be over 300 sets of signals within the next few years), over 100 CCTV cameras, flooded road devices, VMS and other intelligent transport systems (ITS).
ITS is expanding in complexity and size requiring additional resources to adequately research, support, maintain and operate emerging transport systems and technologies. The role will join the Traffic System Asset Management team to manage and operate the Gold Coast road network. The role will also support the project team and manage the increasing workload as projects get underway. Reporting directly to the Senior Technical Officer – Road Operations, this position liaises with a wide range of City personnel and government departments and may be expected to work out of normal business hours, on a roster basis, to support the functions of the City’s Disaster Management Unit, when it is activated.
Responsibilities include:
- Support the real-time management of road operations, including providing information to the City’s Disaster Management Unit
- Support the Senior Network Operations, including management of the traffic signals and ITS systems
- Support the Co-ordinator Traffic Systems Asset Manager
What you bring to your new role
- You may have worked with GIS technologies and data previously - a huge plus!
- You have interest/knowledge in transport operations and transport systems
- You are an adaptable self-starter with an eye for detail
- You thrive on applying innovative approaches to programs and problem-solving
- You effectively foster good stakeholder relationships and can work with a variety of people
- You have great verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- You have intermediate skills in the Microsoft Suite of Applications in particular Excel, Outlook and Word
