An exciting opportunity currently exists for enthusiastic and highly motivated nurses to undertake a Transition in Specialty Practice-Cardiac in our Cardiac and Thoracic Unit (Ward 5 East). The Cardiac and Thoracic Unit (Ward 5 East) is a dynamic 30-bed unit specialising in Cardiac/Thoracic Surgery and Cardiology Medicine. There is a 12-bed critical care area and telemetry monitoring for 18 patients.
You will be employed part time (0.8 EFT) in the Cardiac and Thoracic Unit (Ward 5 East) for the duration of the Transition to Speciality Practice program.
At Austin Health we follow a best practice clinical learning environment philosophy and as such deliver education using contemporary teaching modalities with an emphasis on experiential learning with a particular focus on bedside teaching and learning. Subjects are assessed from both theoretical and clinical perspectives. The Transition in Specialty Practice-Cardiac Program will be undertaken over a 12-month period.
Position Requirements
  • Registered Nurse registered with NMBA
  • Minimum 1 years acute clinical experience post registration

  • Knowledge of legal/ethical requirements and professional standards
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary team
  • A sound understanding of information technology including clinical systems, applications relevant to rostering and risk management reporting or as required for the role and/or department.
