Our Transport Division is experiencing significant growth, presenting the opportunity for a Transport Designer based in our Melbourne office.
As a Transport Designer, you will be responsible for undertaking and delegating a range of responsibilities, from; transport related design advice and compliance reviews to complex problem solving and innovation, report writing and client engagement and liaison. The expectation will be that you will be given support from peers and leadership to get up to speed with Stantec’s approach and focus on delivering a quality product and quickly take on your own projects and clients.
About the role:
This role is responsible for performing duties requiring the application of professional transport engineering technical design knowledge. You will provide professional technical design advice for projects relating to road and intersection layouts, car parking layouts and associated infrastructure using a range of CAD software. You will also be involved in the development and review of documentation for construction.
A day in the life of a Transport Designer looks like:
- Providing technical assistance to the Transport Team, including drafting/ preparation of CAD drawings
- Provision of design and technical advice, and preparation of associated documentation, for planning and construction purposes
- Establishing and maintaining drafting standards
- Attending client/ authority meetings as required
- Preparation of correspondence and other written advice to support submission of project documentation to clients, internal teams and external authorities as directed
- Preparation of fee proposal for new projects, fee and scope variations as well as other required project management correspondence
Along with the above, you may also be required to provide assistance for the preparation of design advice and documentation for transport design projects including traffic signals, functional layouts, traffic management plans and signage and linemarking schemes.
To be successful for this role you'll present:
- 3-5 years of experience as a transport designer/draftsperson
- Expertise in geometric layout design of intersections, car parks, road alignments and an understanding of traffic signal plans
- Proficient understanding of swept path assessments
- Strong knowledge of Australian Standards, Austroads, Department of Transport and other local guidelines
- Ability to collaborate with the Transport Design teams and transport engineering colleagues
- Proficient skill in CAD programs such as Microstation, Autocad and Autoturn
- Ability to interpret design drawings, plans and specifications as it relates to projects, together with other associated technical project information from external parties and consultants
