POSITION: Transportation Coordinator
DEPARTMENT: Customer Service- Operations
POSITION SUMMARY:

UPHP provides non-emergent medical transportation (NEMT) assistance to its Medicaid and MI Health Link population for covered services. The transportation coordinator serves as a liaison for members, providers and vendors for their NEMT benefit, all while representing the Upper Peninsula Health Plan in a professional manner.
PRINICPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follows established Upper Peninsula Health Plan (UPHP) policies and procedures, objectives, safety standards, and sensitivity to confidential information.
  • Develops relationships and maintains communication with members, providers and vendors.
  • Facilitates timely responses to requests for transportation, determining the most cost effective means that meets the member’s medical need.
  • Educates members, providers, vendors and community members on the NEMT benefit.
  • Reviews questionable member-travel situations with the team lead and/or manager.
  • Investigates non-compliant transportation reimbursement forms.
  • Works closely with UPHP clinical services, pharmacy, claims examiners and customer service representatives regarding authorizations, referrals, and specific health-related issues related to their NEMT benefit.
  • Assists in developing, refining and implementing transportation policies and procedures and makes recommendations to achieve maximum efficiency and cost savings.
  • Maintains database of members, volunteer drivers, and vendors.
  • Maintains accurate and complete documentation of all transportation activities.
  • Maintains confidentiality of client data.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Minimum:
High school diploma
Preferred:
Some post-secondary education
Experience:
Minimum:
One-year office experience
Preferred:
Experience in a customer-service environment
Required Skills:

  • Enhanced public/customer relations
  • Keyboarding proficiency
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Access)
  • Exceptional telephone etiquette
  • Composition and proofreading abilities
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of filing systems
  • Electronic transfer of files/documents
  • Internet proficient
  • Fax and copier operation
  • Adaptable to change

Desirable Skills:

  • Oriented to managed care or health care systems
