REPORTS TO: REIMAGINE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT & INTERVENTION SERVICES PROGRAM COORDINATOR

Brighton Park Neighborhood Council (BPNC) is a community-based, non-profit organization serving a low-income working class neighborhood on the southwest side of Chicago. The Brighton Park Neighborhood Council convenes the Brighton Park Neighborhood Network (BPNN), a neighborhood coalition that has over 40 partners (organizations, schools, health providers, elected officials) who are working together to create strong schools, healthy families, and a safe and thriving neighborhood.

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Reimagine Youth Development & Intervention Services (RYDIS) Program Coordinator, the Life Coach is responsible for providing intensive outreach and services for students from 7th-12th grade. Build trusting relationships with the students on an individual basis and support them in providing regular scheduled group meetings using appropriate program curriculum. Reinforce strategy to support students who may be impacted by violence by connecting them to caring adults who can support their individual goals and strengthen peer, individual, community and school connections.

This position requires a flexible work schedule that accommodates students and their families. Nights and weekends will also be required on occasion. This is a year-round position and Life Coaches will provide summer programming every year. Candidates should be passionate about working in a school-based and community setting, and working with members of our coalition to end violence, trauma, and increase access to mental health services in Brighton Park through a larger organizing campaign.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct program enrollment process (intake screening and assessment) of students which involves obtaining consents and identifying and linking students to services (based upon need upon enrollment). Functions as the primary case manager for students that includes recruitment, intake process, and engagement of the youth.
  • Facilitate group meetings and/or group activities during the week, at schools, after-school and/or weekend, to include oversight of group topics, scheduling group meetings, and assisting on field trips and other special interest activities.
  • Offer innovative ideas that will enhance services, with a special emphasis on family involvement.
  • Establish solid community partnerships and linkage to community resources. Provide case management services (i.e., advocacy, telephone follow-up, written correspondence, home visiting, referral, and linkage to agency and/or community service providers). May involve the coordination of service delivery of multiple providers.
  • Provides emotional support, trusting relationships, and acts as a positive role model.
  • Complete all required outcome data
  • Plan, promote, and facilitate a minimum of one event/outing each quarter. Each event should encourage the growth and development of young men and women.
  • Collaborate with other BPNC staff members and departments to ensure the needs of the family and students are being met. In addition, conduct referrals within BPNC when needed.
  • Participate in coalition meetings and provide technical assistance to coalition partners, as necessary.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in an appropriate and respectful manner with students, school, agency staff, and parents.
  • Ability to creatively and flexibly maintain a space for clients within the school setting.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings, staff trainings, supervisory sessions and other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Adhere to agency policy, procedures and the professional code of ethics.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Type: Full-time
