About the Role
Western Health has over 60 Hospital Medical Officer (PGY2) General Training Stream positions suitable for applicants who are currently undertaking their Internship and will have obtained their General Registration with AHPRA by January 2023.
Western Health offers a supported training environment where Senior Medical Staff make an effort to know you personally. Junior doctors in the General Training Stream are supported by a dedicated Director of Clinical Training and Medical Education Officer . Western Health offers a variety of rotations as a PGY2 HMO in the General Training Stream, these include:
- Anaesthetics
- Addiction Medicine
- Emergency Medicine (Adult and Paediatrics)
- Gastroenterology
- GEM / Subacute
- Intensive Care Medicine
- Obstetrics & Gynaecology
- Paediatric Medicine
- Psychiatry
- Rehabilition Medicine
- Respiratory Medicine
- Specialty Medicine Cover/Nights
Every effort will be made to provide rotations of your choice – taking into consideration your career interests, training requirements, previous experience and demands of particular rotations. However this is not a guarantee as this is dependent on the group of successful applicants and final rotation preferences. All HMOs will be assigned a combined annual leave/nights/relieving term during the year.
We have a strong focus on junior doctor education with a dedicated weekly intern and HMO education program, simulation and workshops for junior doctors, hospital grand rounds and a broad range of unit-specific education sessions. The Western Centre for Health Research and Education (WCHRE) at the Sunshine Hospital campus is a purpose built teaching and research facility, including a state-of-the-art simulation centre.

Hospital Medical Officer (PGY2) positions are offered as part of the PMCV Match, as such, applications must be made to both PMCV and Western Health. Please check your eligibility as part of the Match Registration with the PMCV.
