Eden Ritchie are seeking an experienced Policy Officer with strong writing, communication and stakeholder engagement skills who are able to pick up new concepts quickly, and can learn and understand the required policies and legislation.
As Policy Officer, you will develop and provide advice on matters concerning building legislation and policy as well as guidelines and educational material. Considerable stakeholder engagement is an important part of this position.
In this position, you will:
- Assist in the development and implementation of strategic policy for Government while responding to the needs of key stakeholders.
- Interpret legislation, standards, policies, guidelines and practices related to building and plumbing.
- Develop a detailed and thorough understanding of the practical and operational impacts/implications of legislative and other frameworks on industry and other stakeholders.
- Develop informative resources and training material to support industry stakeholders in understanding and complying with legislation, codes and policy.
- Represent the Department’s interests and provide building policy leadership at State and national levels as required on forums, groups and committees.
- Provide high quality written and oral advice to the leadership team and stakeholders on:
- national building policy and legislation to facilitate improved decision making and advancing the interest of the State
- related legislation and standards and their impact on industry and the community
- methods of implementing government policy objectives relating to building and development.
- Undertake and manage research into the continuous improvement of Queensland building legislation and standards so that they are aligned with national, international and built environment development trends and identify improvement opportunities.
- Develop and implement effective communication, engagement and consultation strategies for both internal and external stakeholders and with the community for policy and legislation issues relating the building and construction industry.
- Assist with the management of Cabinet, Executive Council, Parliamentary and legislative matters, and prepare high level documentation, including but not limited to Cabinet Submissions, Drafting Instructions, Executive Council Minutes, Explanatory Speech notes, Bill Books, Estimates Briefing Notes and Ministerial correspondence.
- Promote and maintain a high performance and continuous improvement oriented culture consistent with the department’s values, employment equity and workplace health and safety principles and practices.
