About the University

About the School/ Office

The School of Medicine offers a four-year Doctor of Medicine (MD) program that has been fully accredited by the Australian Medical Council of Australia and is highly ranked by graduates in national surveys. Key features include a focus on small group teaching and problem-based learning, combined with rich clinical experiences across the entire program. The School also offers several postgraduate programs.

The Riverina Regional Training Hub is a key Commonwealth initiative of the Australian Government funded under the Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training Grant. The Hub is focused on enhancing the recruitment and retention of the Rural Medical workforce in collaboration with local Health Services, primary Health Networks, Colleges, Universities, training organisations and other partners in the Murrumbidgee region.

About the role/ Position Purpose

The successful applicant is expected to have a sound understanding of issues that may be impacting the medical workforce in the region across the full spectrum from university through to senior appointments. The successful applicant is expected to reside within the region and be willing to travel if required to Wagga, Griffith and other locations within the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing clinical, strategic and academic leadership to the RRTH;
  • Building and maintaining partnerships with key stakeholders to ensure goals and objectives of the RRTH are achieved;
  • Developing and implementing a support system for medical trainees including supporting their mentorship directly or indirectly;
  • Reporting as required in accordance with the funding agreements for the RRTH;
  • Attend both Wagga Wagga and Griffith locations on a regular basis as communicated by the Assoc Dean, Rural;

Selection Criteria

Essential
  • Supportive of the Objects of Notre Dame as a Catholic University.
  • Medical Degree registered or eligible to be registered in Australia. Fellowship in an Australian College eligible to be registered with AHPRA or close to completing the criteria for such a fellowship;
  • Possession of a doctoral qualification or equivalent accreditation and standing with recognised significant experience in the relevant discipline area;
  • Academic excellence which may be evidenced by an outstanding contribution to teaching and/or research and/or the profession;
  • Demonstrated high level leadership, teamwork, organisational skills and communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • A demonstrated ability to work closely with relevant partners, health services and local clinicians to deliver the objectives of the RRTH;
  • A fundamental understanding of Work, Health and Safety arrangements required in a Clinical school;
  • Currently residing within the region or with a commitment to move to the region within 6 months of being offered the role.
