MHDA Statement of Intention
The intention of the NSLHD MHDA is to provide recovery-oriented, trauma informed services that are guided by evidence based practices and collaboration.
The Northern Beaches Community Mental Health Service (NBCMHS) Intake Clinician will assist in telephone and face to face (Health Centre ‘Walk Ins’) triage assessment as well as perform mental state examinations and conduct handover to relevant teams and services using the ISBAR format.
The role will include taking direct referrals from NBH MHS in line with the NBCMHS intake Guidelines and NSLHD / NBH Key Service Directory.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:
- Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them.
- Tertiary qualifications as per clinical discipline (Nursing, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Psychology) with full AHPRA registration or eligible for full membership with AASW.
- Demonstrated experience working within mental health settings, and skills conducting mental health triages and assessments across the age-span.
- Advanced written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively engage consumers over the telephone and face to face through assessment and triage processes. Ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders including the Northern Beaches Hospital Mental Health Service – public private partnership.
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and challenging circumstances
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team within a critical environment
- Ability to understand, interpret, and analyse complex issues with proven conceptual thinking skills for effective problem solving and decision making.
- Advanced computer literacy with demonstrated experience in the use of Windows-based applications and touch typing skills
