What you'll be doing

  • The Nurse Practitioner (NP) at the Newborn & paediatric Emergency Transport Service (NETS) works autonomously and collaboratively in an advanced and extended clinical role to deliver a child and family centred approach to healthcare within the NETS service. The NETS NP will be proactive in pioneering and developing this role in response to challenging healthcare needs and advances in practice. The NETS NP will be responsible for providing effective nursing leadership, clinical expertise, advice and support during neonatal and paediatric retrievals.

  • The NETS NP’s scope of practice (ScOP) is determined by the context of practice that is underpinned by policy and service requirements. The ScOP will be reviewed regularly in conjunction with the service director and Nurse Manager of NETS.

  • The primary role of the NETS NP is to provide comprehensive diagnostic assessment and advanced clinical skills during neonatal and paediatric retrievals. The NETS NP will be responsible for the initiation and interpretation of diagnostic investigations, diagnosing, prescribing of pharmacological and non-pharmacological agents and therapies along with consultation with the NETS Consultant, referring and receiving facilities along with other relevant medical specialists and health professionals.

  • The NETS NP will draw on their professional competency and capability to improve and enhance clinical service outcomes through research and quality improvement activities.

  • The NETS NP will provide education and support to other clinicians that facilitate the ongoing development of clinical practice. They will maintain a standard ensuring the level of education is reflective of their competence.

  • The NETS NP will challenge and broaden their education to meet service outcomes and higher competencies whilst being supported by NETS to develop and maintain advanced clinical skills.

Criteria:

  • Current authority to practice as a Registered Nurse and with endorsement to practice as a Nurse Practitioner through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

  • Relevant experience and evidence of advanced practice skills as an endorsed Nurse Practitioner in neonatal and/or paediatric critical care or a retrieval service including experience in managing a ventilated neonatal or paediatric patient

  • Demonstrated ability to articulate sound reasoning behind clinical, diagnostic and prescribing decisions that are informed by evidence based practice and made within a nursing context.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and engage with patients/consumers, carers and engage with patients/consumers, carers and the multidisciplinary health care team to identity and ensure responsiveness of care needs.

  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development

  • Demonstrated skills in the delivery of clinical education and support

  • Evidence of quality and/or research activities

  • Ability to contribute to clinical service planning relevant to scope

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.


Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations. Please provide proof of booster vaccination if available.


Please note: To be eligible for permanent appointment to a position in NSW Health, you must have an Australian citizenship or permanent Australian residency.
