Job description
The Honourable Shannon Fentiman, Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Minister for Women and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence invites expressions of interest from people interested in appointment as the Deputy Chairperson or as an Ordinary Commissioner of the Crime and Corruption Commission. This is an incredibly exciting time for suitably qualified legal practitioners to join the five-person Commission to contribute to the strategic direction of this independent, high-profile organisation of vital importance to the people of Queensland.
The Organisation
The Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) is an independent statutory body set up to combat and reduce the incidence of major crime and corruption in the public sector in Queensland. The CCC investigates major crime, deals with corruption affecting the public sector, confiscates the proceeds of crime and unexplained wealth and operates the Witness Protection Program in Queensland.
The role
As a member of the Commission you will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction to the performance of the CCC's functions and the exercise of the CCC's powers by CCC officers. All positions on the Commission, with the exception of the Chairperson are part-time.
Mandatory Qualification for appointment
The Ordinary Commissioner may be appointed from time to time to act in the office of Chairperson or Deputy Chairperson where the Chairperson or Deputy Chairperson office is vacant or the person holding the office is absent or otherwise cannot perform the duties of the office. To be qualified for appointment as the Deputy Chairperson, you must have served as, or be qualified for appointment as, a judge of the Supreme Court of Queensland or another State, the High Court of Australia or the Federal Court of Australia.
The Ordinary Commissioner will be supported by two other Ordinary Commissioners who have qualifications, experience and standing appropriate to assist the commission to perform its functions but who do not have the legal qualifications required to act in the position of Chairperson.
