The opportunity
This is a rare opportunity for a Python Engineer to join our Data Science team within QBE's Australia Pacific division. Reporting into the Head of Analytics, you will be responsible for delivering software solutions for Data Science systems to optimise business processes and providing decision support to improve the quality and performance of various business units.
Your responsibilities will include:

Engineering robust, reliable software in Python and Open-Source systems

Working within an agile team of developers, data scientists, data analysts and analytics partners to build machine learning software solutions

Designing and developing APIs in adherence to integration standards

Defining database schemas to ensure robust operation and support for current and future solution needs, aligning with the wider D&A approach

Coordinating activities with other shared services partners (e.g. IT) by prioritising relevant activities and providing subject matter expertise

Positively promoting the department, division and company as a whole, in order to maximise brand leverage and develop the team’s profile

Contributing to a positive environment by demonstrating cultural expectations and guiding leaders to reward performance, and valuing “can do” people, accountability, diversity and inclusion, flexibility, continuous improvement, collaboration, creativity and fun
Your story so far

Experience in Python programming fundamentals.
-
Comfortable with Linux and bash scripting (e.g. CI/CD)

You have created APIs with Flask, FastAPI, Django or similar
-
Strong experience working with databases, having defined schemas or migrated databases

Some front-end/web experience is favourable: basic HTML, CSS and JavaScript, but frameworks also welcome

Ability to apply your technical problem solving to real world problems and be able prioritise the business case over a perfect solution

Experience, or an in interest in Data Science and ML Concepts

Strong project management, collaboration and communication skills

Curiosity to learn and keep up with market trends and innovations

Degree qualified software development, mathematics, applied science or related disciplines
