What you will be doing:

We have an exciting opportunity to work as a Senior Research Sonographer in our Women and Children's Outpatient Department and Perinatal Ultrasound division. This role requires a highly experienced and motivated Obstetric Sonographer to provide ultrasound support for Maternal Fetal Medicine Clinicians of Nepean Hospital, in particular the assessment of pregnancies associated with fetal anomalies, severe pregnancy complications and complex maternal medical conditions.

The position will also require active participation in research and education programs conducted in both departments. There is an expectation that the sonographer will present work at relevant meetings and conferences. Key Accountabilities will include:

  • Provide sonography service for high risk referrals to Maternal Fetal Medicine Unit including clinical and administrative duties.
  • Supervise and oversee continuing education and training of other sonographers and sonography students, MFM Fellows and O&G Trainees
  • Conduct and assist in research within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology including consideration of enrolment in a higher degree in ultrasound based research.
  • Presenting research at appropriate conferences/seminar
  • Demonstrate commitment to WH&S through personal involvement and participate in WH&S education and training including mandatory training.
  • Patient care and provision of high quality ultrasound examinations
  • Assist the Chief Sonographer maintain service standards, patient throughput, and maintenance of equipment and consumables, development of policies and procedures.
  • The ability to relocate to other sites within NBMLHD may at times be required.

To be eligible for employment with NBMLHD you must be: an Australian Citizen, or a permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport, or a citizen of another country with an appropriate visa that allows you to work in Australia. If you currently hold a temporary visa that allows you to live and work in Australia you may only be offered employment in line with the conditions and expiry date of your visa.

Selection Criteria to be Addressed:

  • Qualifications in ultrasound and accreditation as a Sonographer with the Australian Sonographer Accreditation Registry (ASAR).
  • For dual qualified Radiographer/Sonographer must also have a current EPA licence in NSW (or eligible for same).
  • For dual qualified Radiographer/Sonographer, must also have registration with AHPRA as a medical Radiation Practitioner (or be eligible for same).
  • Extensive experience in Obstetric and Gynaecological Ultrasound. Experience in clinical research. Extensive knowledge and experience in the area of medical research or equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health and medical research within a health services environment, including knowledge of Good Clinical Practice principles.
  • Sound understanding of the legislation, codes and guidelines relevant to research ethics and governance, including knowledge of the authorisation process of medical research in Australia.
  • Demonstrated high level of communication and inter-personal skills across a variety of mediums including the ability to effectively engage with a multidisciplinary team at all levels of the Organisation. Interpersonal, conflict resolution, negotiation and influencing skills and be able to lead change.
  • Proficiency in a range of computer application systems including Microsoft Office, spreadsheets and databases.
