Salary: 103,575 to 116,035 per annum, plus 10.5% superannuation, a 9-day fortnight and a leaseback vehicle.
Recently vacant due to an internal promotion, this position leads a customer-focused team that strives to successfully manage the Shire's public health and animal control programs, balancing the needs of our community with legislation, Council policy and development compliance.

Hornsby Shire is located on Sydney's upper north shore, approximately 25 kilometres north of the CBD. Known as the ‘Bushland Shire’, our local government area is characterised by bushland comprising national park, major waterways, natural reserves and rural landscape. The rest of the Shire combines urban, rural and open spaces.
About the role
This position is an operational and supervisory role whose focus is to manage the activities of a team of professional officers in administering the regulatory functions of Council’s Planning and Compliance Division. The main functions include;
- Manage, supervise, and coordinate the activities of a team of professional and administration officers
- Ensure that customer’s needs are met at a level of service determined and resourced by Council
- Manage team and financial resources to achieve determined targets
- Manage the professional development of team members
- Monitor and review and implement legislative requirements
About you
To be successful you will need to supervise, lead and mentor staff. You will also require high level understanding of the Public Health Act, Food Act, Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, Protection of the Environment Operations Act, Local Government Act and the Companion Animals Act. Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills both written and oral with the ability to negotiate, mediate and problem solve complex matters is essential.
